Bridging gaps

On this page we will publish ongoing projects

Project Borneo - Grubbeskolan grade 7 (12-13 years old, Nov-14)

During two weeks of English class we worked with Project Borneo. The aim of this project was to learn more about Borneo and our partner school La Salle.

The students did their own research about an animal or something else that had to do with Borneo’s fascinating nature.

They used the program WeVideo (Google Apps) to present their work.

Thank you Alva for letting us show your WeVideo on this blog!

Lesson Study "Solar Light"

a lesson in sustainable living

by Adrian Roberst

This lesson was adapted from a project carried out in two countries, namely Africa and The Phillippines, two notably poor countries where the people struggle with even basic amenities such as electricity and, clean water and basic necessities. The idea was to use everyday household materials such as bottles to generate light. This programme has been successfully carried out in both countries.

The Students’ Council at Grubbeskolan

By Tova Stridsberg and Matilda Brännström

The Students’ Council of Grubbeskolan is quite different from your School Parliament. We don’t have two different Parties like you do, we are more like one big party with two representatives from each class. And since there are about fifteen classes at our school, there are about thirty members in our Students’ Council...read more!

This is our apple tree and the board of our student council. The apple is a symbol for Grubbeskolan so we in the students´ council thought that it was a good idea to have an apple tree in our schoolyard. So we planted it last year in the autumn.

On the behalf of teacher Safri JeffriEric Gabriel Funk, Chief Minister of the Parliament 2013-204 and Gabriel Felix Godfrey, Leader off the Opposition party, have done a task describing the students council work at La Salle.

The Parliament of SM La Salle, Sabah.
Indeed the school parliament of SM La Salle, Sabah is a proud heritage that has endured in our school for more than fifty years. Echoing our school motto “La Salle is Something More”, this system is uniquely found only in our school within the Kota Kinabalu district, and also quite possibly the only one in the State of Sabah...read more!

The Opposition of SM La Salle. Sabah.
The Opposition Party have lent a helping hand in a number of activities organised by the Government with one of them being the Parliament stall that we set up during the annual school jogathon. This stall was set up to raise funds for the Parliament. We mainly sold energy drinks and some snacks as well as nice homemade cupcakes...read more!

September 2013-
With the purpose of letting our students get to know someone from another culture we, Veronica Somasundram (La Salle Secondary School) and I Maria Fredriksson (Grubbeskolan), started a project together. 11 students from Umeå will have the opportunity to get into contact with 8 students from La Salle. We believe that our students, even though they come from different parts of the world, have a lot in common and a lot to learn from each other. The first task that the students were given was to write a letter where they introduced themselves, they will then get the chance to learn/ teach each other about the cities they live in and their own culture. We will, after that, move on to other projects all of which have the basic idea of creating an understanding between people. Our hope is that this will be one piece in the giant puzzle where we all have to contribute in making the world a sustainable place for all people.
